What Is the Believer’s Authority?

Key Scripture:
“Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”  Luke 10:19 (NKJV)

Introduction

Many young believers love God deeply but still feel powerless when facing fear, temptation, sickness, or pressure from life. We pray, we hope, and we wait yet Scripture tells us that God has already given us authority. Not promised. Not reserved for pastors. Given.

The believer’s authority is the legal right God gives every Christian to live victorious through Jesus Christ. Authority is not about shouting louder in prayer; it’s about knowing who you are and what Christ has already done.

Authority vs Power (Why This Matters)

Power is strength or ability. Authority is the right to use that power.

Think of a traffic police officer. They may not be physically strong, but when they raise their hand, cars stop. Why? Authority. The uniform represents a higher power backing them.

In the same way, believers may feel weak emotionally or physically, but heaven backs them when they stand on God’s Word.

What Kenneth E. Hagin Teaches

In The Believer’s Authority, Kenneth E. Hagin explains that many Christians live defeated lives—not because Satan is strong, but because believers don’t know they have authority over him.

“The trouble is that believers do not know their authority.” — Kenneth E. Hagin

Real-Life Story

A young Christian once shared how he struggled with fear every night. He prayed, asking God to remove the fear, but nothing changed. One day, he learned that fear is a spirit and that he had authority in Jesus’ name. Instead of begging, he spoke boldly:

“Fear, I resist you in the name of Jesus. Leave now.”

That night, the fear left—and never returned.

Devotional Reflection

·       Are you asking God to do what He has already authorized you to do?

·       What situations in your life need authority, not fear?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for giving me authority through Your name. Help me to understand who I am in You and to live boldly, not in fear. Amen.
